Global Animal Partnership, an international, nonprofit 501(c)(3) charitable organization founded in 2008, brings together farmers, scientists, ranchers, retailers, and leaders from four of the world’s largest animal welfare advocacy organizations—a diverse group with the common commitment to continually improve the lives of farm animals.
Our signature program, the 5-Step Animal Welfare Rating Standards, recognizes and rewards the welfare practices of producers who are audited and certified by authorized independent third-parties; promotes and incentivizes continuous improvement through its unique, multi-tiered design; enables retailers to have a broader selection of higher welfare products for their customers; and better informs consumers about the production systems they choose to support.
Whether through direct engagement with producers and retailers; trainings and assessment tools for auditors and certification companies; outreach and collaboration with multilateral entities; project development with animal advocacy organizations; finding common ground and a unified voice with other sectors; or advancing greater understanding of meat, egg, and milk production, while empowering individuals to choose to support ever-higher welfare products, Global Animal Partnership strives to change the landscape of animal agriculture through a positive, rewarding, multi-stakeholder approach.

We recently welcomed the successful completion of a two-year pilot program conducted exclusively with Whole Foods Market. We’re very honored to share that in these early years, our 5-Step initiative has fast become the leading animal welfare rating certification program in North America, and we are already engaging new retail partners, both restaurants and groceries, in North America and beyond.
