Global Animal Partnership Certification Specialist


Global Animal Partnership (GAP) is a non-profit charitable organization founded in 2008.  GAP brings together farmers, scientists, ranchers, retailers and animal advocates – a diverse group with the common goal of improving the welfare of animals in agriculture.  The 5-Step® Animal Welfare Program recognizes producers for their welfare practices, facilitates continuous improvement, and better informs consumers about the production systems they choose to support.  As of January 1, 2016, 2900 farms and ranches are certified to GAPs standards that range from Step 1 to Step 5+, impacting over 290 million animals annually.



Certification Specialist



Fixed term contract potentially leading to full time position



Preference is for position to be located in Austin, but consideration will be given to an alternative location.


About the Position:

Reporting to the Director of Standards and Certification, the core responsibilities of this position will include:

  • reviewing  certification documentation and related materials

  • developing and managing tracking metrics

  • developing and managing certification benchmarking tool

  • handling day-to-day certification questions and issues

  • enhancing certification process and related materials

  • reviewing  Certifier Accreditation Process

  • contributing to/edit reports, manuals, standards revisions and other specialized publications

  • perform other duties as required



  • Bachelor degree in animal production / animal science /welfare science

  • Experience with alternative livestock production systems and/or farm animal agriculture and/or farm animal welfare

  • Certification and/or standards writing experience

  • Proven technical expertise with alternative livestock production systems, farm animal agriculture and farm animal welfare

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to work effectively in collaboration with a diverse group of stakeholders

  • Ability to self-manage

  • Detail oriented with excellent analytical and organizational skills

  • Experience with database development and management is desirable

  • Strong computer skills, including the ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

  • Great personality – team player whose is able to have fun and create a positive work environment!

  • Ability to travel up to 25%
